Breweries, wineries and distilleries have similar challenges to other food and beverage facilities. A chemical-resistant coating is mandatory these facilities, as beer, wine and spirits can stain and degrade concrete, with the yeast and alcohols effectively “eating” through the floors layers.
The exact applications determines the best system for each space. A heavy duty urethane system is ideal for brewing facilities, due to it’s heat-resistance, chemical-resistance and water-resistance. This system also works well in kegging, bottling and canning spaces with its resistance to impact from forklifts, kegs and pallet jacks. For the restaurant side of a brewpub, winery or distillery, floors would require heat-resistance, skid-resistance and more. Epoxy applications can easily provide a custom mix of resistance-features for bathrooms, kitchens and food prep areas.
Pet Food Processing facilities of both wet and dry processing also fall under SFCR (Safe Food for Canadians Regulations) as well as FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) in the US. As such, facilities must remain sanitary, seamless and up to date. As with other food processing facilities, seamless flooring systems must be waterproof, easy to clean and safe which resisting impact, traffic chemicals and moisture-exposure. These seamless epoxy, urethane, and other resinous flooring solutions may also require custom sloping and drainage, and sometimes epoxy curbs for washdown areas.
Depending on whether your pet food facility creates wet or dry food- or both- Applied can help determine which flooring solutions will keep you sanitary, productive, and compliant.

Thermal cycling is the rotation of hot, cold and consistently varying temperatures that occur typically in food and beverage production facilities. Floors are exposed consistently to these types of extreme conditions due to processing steps, equipment output, and regular cleaning and hot-water washdowns. It is imperative that food and beverage processing floors withstand this constant stressful cycling in order to prevent cracking of the floor, keeping them seamless, antibacterial (FDA & CFIA compliant), durable and safe for employees.
Food safe epoxy is one of the most installed industrial flooring systems that Applied Industrial Floors Canada installs. With some of Canada’s largest food and beverage manufacturers choosing Applied to install their food-grade floors, food, beverage, brewery and pet food manufacturing floors are truly our specialty.
